12 Pieces of Advice that Will Help You to Build Strong Self-Confidence

We all want to feel happy and confident. Confidence helps you get better results and appreciated by others. This increases your chances of getting more responsibilities and a raise. In relationships, you get the attention you deserve. In short, confidence helps you get whatever you want in life.
Lack of self-confidence has serious consequences on our lives. It can sabotage our progress both at work and at home, and this leads to failure and frustration. Nothing good comes out of lack of self-confidence. In short, lack of self-confidence prevents you from getting what you deserve in life.
Lack of self-confidence is caused by our doubts and fears. Our doubts and fears hold us back from doing the things we should do to become successful. Every time you procrastinate or postpone doing the most important things, such as networking in a key event, approaching the man or woman you like, or asking your boss for a raise, you feed your doubts and fears until you cannot control yourself.
No one is born with fears or doubts. We doubt ourselves because we have self-limiting beliefs. The good thing about self-limiting beliefs is they can be changed anytime. When you eliminate your self-limiting beliefs, you will feel confident and happy.
Remember, you cannot build self-confidence overnight. It takes time, energy and practice. But you won’t do it alone.
We are here to share with you 12 proven pieces that will help you to build strong self-confidence. If others can do it, you can do it. Let’s get started!
1. Positive affirmations work like magic
One of the best ways to eliminate self-limiting beliefs is through positive affirmations. Positive affirmations are statements that are used to reprogram your mind to see yourself as a better person. Some great examples of positive affirmations include, “I am happy”, “People like me”, “I like myself”, “Something good is going to happen to me” and so forth.
You can write them down in your notebook or anywhere you can see them every time you get out of bed or when you go to sleep. The key to success when using affirmations is consistency and feeling. The stronger the emotion, the easier your mind will accept these statements as truth.
2. Fake it and you’ll make it
You are not going to be feeling confident every single day. One of the best ways to feel confident in a few minutes is faking until you make it. When you wake up, smile and treat the people around you well. Keep your chin up and relax your shoulders.
Remember the way you acted when you were feeling confident and do exactly that. After a few minutes, you’ll feel confident. The action will generate the feeling and the feeling will help you act. You will feel funny in the beginning but don’t stop until you become a confident person.
3. Dress properly
Lack of self-confidence can be attributed to your dressing. You have probably worn something that you didn’t feel comfortable in it, be it shoes, trousers, a shirt or a top. Could you speak with people comfortably? Could you perform at your best? No!
A smart comfortable outfit not only draws other people, but also helps us feel happy and perform at our best. If you happen to wear something that makes you feel uncomfortable, change immediately to avoid embarrassing yourself.
4. Stop mumbling
How you talk is directly linked to your level of self-confidence. The majority of people who keep their voices low usually have low self-confidence because they don’t want other people to hear what they have to say.
You have probably noted this at your workplace. There is that one person who always voices his or her ideas without fear. The majority are those who stay quiet most of the time. When they are asked to speak, they mumble. Next time you meet with your friends or colleagues, project a loud voice and see how you will start feeling.
5. Take the front seat
Where do you normally sit in key events? Do you rush to take the first row or the last one? The truth is, only a few people rush to the front. The majority will fill the center and the back. We avoid the front seats to avoid being asked questions or being requested to stand on the stage.
However, it’s always the successful and important people who sit in front. Therefore, when you sit in the first row, you’ll not only boost your confidence but also get treated accordingly with your colleagues. At first, you’ll feel uncomfortable but you’ll get used to it. The only way to become self-confident is by confronting our fears.
6. Focus on yourself
Research shows that people focus on themselves 90% of the time. This means that they’ll focus on other people 10% of the time. People who have low self-confidence tend to focus on other people to gain their approval.
However, the harsh truth is nobody cares. Therefore, the best thing you can is focus on yourself. When you focus on improving who you are, the world around you will naturally improve. The outer world will always reflect the state of your inner world.
7. Accept yourself
The number one cause of low self-esteem is failing to accept yourself, the way you are. Some people cannot even look at themselves in a mirror. Remember, you cannot accomplish any important goal if you dislike yourself.
Disliking yourself causes unending problems in relationships because you try to squeeze happiness out of other people. When you accept yourself the way you are with all your strengths and weaknesses, you open the doors of opportunity. You are a unique person. There’ll never be a person exactly like you on this planet.
8. Exercise regularly
Exercising regularly is a great way to reduce stress, tone your body and feel amazing. You can work out at the gym or take a walk a few times a week with your dog.
Keeping your body in shape makes you feel good about yourself; it boosts your immunity, and helps you sleep better.
9. Avoid slouching
Walking tall and sitting up straight projects confidence and makes you more attractive. Slouching and avoiding eye contact shows other people that you are ashamed of yourself. The truth is you have nothing to be ashamed about.
10. Focus on progress
People who aim for perfection are usually disappointed after some time. It is very difficult to do everything perfectly because there’ll always be room for improvement.
Perfectionists usually criticize themselves or blame others most of the time. To avoid this, focus on progress. At the end of the day, there are things you have done that you couldn’t do yesterday or last week. Congratulate yourself!
11. Focus on smaller goals
Knocking down a big goal can be challenging. You might end up feeling unconfident if you fail to meet your deadlines. The best thing you can do for yourself is to break down the big goal into manageable chunks. Every time you knock the goal down, celebrate!
12. Express gratitude
Most of the time, we are usually more focused on the things that haven’t worked than the things that have. And that’s why the majority of people have low self-confidence. You can change what you focus on by expressing gratitude for your accomplishments. By expressing gratitude, you’ll attract abundance into your life.

Radical Gratitude: How to Turn Your Pain into Peace

My journey to living in gratitude began in 2010. And let me say that up until that time, until I was age forty-five, I was a complainer, griper, and a whiner, with absolutely no reason to complain! Luckily, I was saved from these very wasteful, counter-productive habits when I was given a blank journal one Thanksgiving season by a New Thought minister, who told us if we journaled five things we were grateful for forty days, our life would change exponentially for the better. I dutifully wrote my gratitude lists, and oh my god, my life did change. It worked! I let go of complaining and started focusing on all the good in my life, and there is plenty. Since then: 1. I have written five or ten things to be grateful for almost every day for years and years. Each morning and each evening, I also reflect on what I am thankful for. 2. I have realized (and I am thankful) that it is now my calling and passion to share the power of gratitude to inspire others. 3.

12 Habits to Adopt to Make This Your Best Year Yet

Many of us head into the New Year with big goals and ambitions. We think about everything that seems to be lacking in our lives and imagine ourselves far happier and more fulfilled on the other side of massive change. There’s no denying that certain accomplishments can amp up our life satisfaction, but I’ve found that our daily habits are the biggest contributor to our happiness. You can have a job that excites you, the best body of your life, and the perfect partner for you, but none of it will fully satisfy you if you don’t also prioritize the daily habits that nurture your overall well-being. If you want to feel good about yourself and your life, you need to regularly do the things that make you feel peaceful, joyful, and alive. With this in mind, I recently asked twelve Tiny Buddha contributors (all involved in our upcoming Best You, Best Life Bundle Sale) to share one habit worth adopting in the New Year. Here’s what they had to say:   1. Start the

How to Take Action: 12 Habits that Turn Dreams into Reality

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe “Don't wait. The time will never be just right.” Napoleon Hill I got stuck in analysis paralysis due to  my habit of overthinking things . I got stuck in procrastination and in pessimism. Things have changed a lot since then though. I have added many new habits that help me to take much more action than I used to. I hope this week's article will help you to do the same. 1. Get your day off to a great start by doing the most important thing. I first learned about this about 18 years ago when I used to sell computers. The boss told us that if we took care of the most important task of the day – often one of the more difficult ones too – right away in the morning the rest of the day would be a lot easier and lighter. He was right about that. When that first and most important task is done you don’t have to worry about it. It won’t weigh down on your day.
